Synopsis
Scudder, a detective with the Sheriff's Department, is forced to shoot a violent suspect during a narcotics raid, leading him into an alcoholism spiral that costs him his job and marriage. During his recovery through Alcoholics Anonymous, he meets a mysterious woman who draws him back into the world of vice. In trying to help this woman, Scudder must investigate a murder in a crime-world of prostitution and drugs while resisting the temptation to return to alcohol abuse.

8 Million Ways to Die is a 1986 neo-noir thriller directed by Hal Ashby, set in Los Angeles, California during the 1980s. The film follows Scudder, a troubled detective turned private investigator, as he navigates his personal demons while entangled in a murder investigation amidst the city's vice scene.
