The story begins with the death of an elderly millionaire, who leaves his entire fortune worth $8 million to Rebecca Carlson, a woman with whom he had been having an affair. District Attorney Robert Garrett suspects foul play and decides to prosecute Rebecca, believing she intentionally engaged in wild sexual activity with the old man to cause his heart attack.
