Synopsis
Joseph Svenden, a 47-year-old schoolteacher and farmer, lives with his dying mother and has a long-time relationship with Rosealee, his best friend's widow, who also teaches at the two-room schoolhouse. When Catherine, a 17-year-old student, enrolls in their class, Joseph begins an affair with her despite knowing it is wrong. Meanwhile, Joseph learns that he will lose his teaching job due to the school district expanding into his town. The affair and the impending loss of his job force Joseph to reflect on his life and decide how he wants to live the rest of it.

Résumé
Carried Away (1996), directed by Bruno Barreto, is based on Jim Harrison's book 'Farmer'. It follows middle-aged schoolteacher Joseph Svenden who lives a simple life on his family farm.
