Synopsis
James Leeds, a new instructor at a New England school for the deaf, meets Sarah Norman, a deaf woman working as a custodian who was once a student there. Despite Sarah's emotional withdrawal and refusal to speak due to her troubled past with her mother, James becomes determined to help her reach her full potential beyond being just a cleaning woman. He tries to teach her to speak but struggles initially. However, they eventually develop a romantic relationship, and James begins to understand Sarah on a deeper level. The film explores whether their relationship can bridge the divides between the hearing world and the deaf community, and if Sarah can find her true identity beyond her deafness.
