Synopsis
Das freiwillige Jahr follows Urs, a single doctor who lives with his alcoholic brother Falk and cares for him. His primary concern is for his teenage daughter Jette, whom he fears will become stuck in their small town due to lack of opportunities. In an effort to broaden her horizons and encourage her independence, Urs persuades her to volunteer abroad in South America.

Résumé
Das freiwillige Jahr is a German drama film directed by Henner Winckler and Ulrich Köhler, released in 2019. The movie centers around the complex family dynamics of Urs, his alcoholic brother Falk, and their teenage daughter Jette. When Urs encourages Jette to volunteer abroad in South America, he hopes that this experience will give her a new perspective on life beyond their small town. However, as Jette embarks on her journey, Urs must confront his own fears and the true extent of Falk's alcoholism.
