Shea Farrell, a struggling B-movie producer, has trouble financing his latest project while his wife Leslie Kay, an art gallery owner, grows weary of their role-playing games in bed to keep their marriage interesting. Two detectives secretly observe them. Leslie tells Shea she wants to have sex as themselves more often, but he starts receiving mysterious gifts from a woman claiming to be Madame X, whom he initially thinks is Leslie. As the story unfolds, it becomes apparent that Shea is being set up in an intricate scheme.
