In post-1956 Hungary, political journalist Eva Szalanczky is found dead near the border, with her friend Livia hospitalized and Livia's husband Donci arrested. Flashing back to a year prior, we learn that Eva secured a writing job and befriended married woman Livia, who was initially hesitant due to her marital status but grew attracted to Eva nonetheless. Both women struggle professionally due to political censorship, and personally as they grapple with their budding feelings for each other.
