In 19th century Galicia, Spain, Marcela Gracia Ibeas and Elisa Sanchez Loriga meet at school and become close friends. Their friendship evolves into a romantic relationship, which they must keep secret due to societal disapproval of same-sex relationships. When Marcela's parents suspect their relationship, they send her abroad for a couple of years. Upon returning, Marcela and Elisa reunite and decide to marry despite the obstacles. They devise a plan: Elisa will leave town temporarily and return disguised as Mario to marry Marcela. However, their plan faces challenges due to social pressure and gossip.
