Based on Luiz Ruffato's novel, 'Estive em Lisboa e Lembrei de Você' (2015) follows a narrative structure inspired by oral interviews, with the main character addressing the camera directly. Résumé
'Estive em Lisboa e Lembrei de Você' is a Brazilian-Portuguese co-production directed by José Barahona, his first feature film after living in Brazil for several years. Initially conceived as a documentary based on Ruffato's novel, the project evolved into a narrative film with strong documentary elements. Barahona aimed to understand what drives Brazilians to emigrate to Portugal and chose to cast amateur actors and non-actors to incorporate their real-life experiences into the film. The story is told through a first-person perspective, echoing the 'false documentary' style of Ruffato's book.
