When Sarah becomes preoccupied with political matters due to the ongoing war with France, Abigail steps in as the Queen's companion, further advancing her ambitions.
Résumé
The Favourite is a historical drama set during the early 18th century reign of Queen Anne (Olivia Colman). The film explores the complex relationships and power dynamics within Anne's court, particularly between Anne herself, her close friend Lady Sarah Churchill (Rachel Weisz), and Sarah's cousin Abigail Masham (Emma Stone). As Anne's health declines, Sarah governs the country in her stead, leading to a rivalry between Sarah and Abigail for Anne's favor. The film blends dark humor with historical drama to depict the ruthless pursuit of power within the aristocracy.
