Synopsis
Girl King presents the tumultuous life of Kristina of Sweden, crowned queen at the age of six. Raised as a prince and groomed for power by austere men like Chancellor Axel Oxenstierna, Kristina struggles to reconcile her duty with her true nature. As she grows into a brilliant and extravagant young woman, she finds sanctuary in the love of her lady-in-waiting, Countess Ebba Sparre. However, conservative forces around her pressure her to marry and produce an heir, leading to political negotiations and power struggles. Meanwhile, Kristina's awakening sexuality and modern ideas clash with the traditional court. The film explores Kristina's conflict between reason and passion, her woman's body and her royal upbringing, and her desire for freedom against the expectations placed upon her.
