Synopsis
In the small French mining town of Decazeville, best friends Johanna and Jeanne form part of a music group called The Sirens. At the annual Miners' Ball, they spontaneously perform an unaccompanied duet that catches the attention of Johanna's new friend Luc. Inspired by their talent, Luc encourages them to record some songs with the help of arranger Jasper. After recording a few tracks, Luc travels to Paris to pitch their music to record companies. Meanwhile, Jeanne spots posters for a solo singing contest, and despite initial reluctance, Johanna auditions on live TV under her own name. Unbeknownst to most viewers, including Johanna herself initially, Jasper substitutes Johanna's microphone with a recording of Jeanne's voice during the performance. This leads to Johanna becoming an overnight sensation, while Jeanne remains in the shadows, unknown to the public.
