Synopsis
The story unfolds in newly independent Nigeria during the 1960s. Olanna and Kainene, glamorous twins, return home from their studies abroad. They soon diverge in their personal lives: Olanna marries a professor named Odenigbo with whom she has a son, while Kainene chooses a relationship with a British writer named Richard. As civil war breaks out, the sisters must confront their differences and join forces to survive the political turmoil and establish an independent republic.
