Synopsis
Cosmo Vittelli, the owner of a seedy Hollywood cabaret, has a long-standing gambling problem that leads him into debt with mobster Mort. Unable to pay back his debt after losing big at Mort's underground casino, Cosmo is offered an alternative: eliminate a troublesome bookie protected by the Mafia as repayment. Cosmo must navigate the dangerous world of organized crime in Los Angeles while trying to protect himself and those he cares about from the consequences of his actions.

‘Killing of a Chinese Bookie’ (1976) is an independently produced neo-noir thriller directed by John Cassavetes. Set in the grimy underbelly of Hollywood, California, the film explores themes of gambling addiction, debt, and the desperate measures one man takes to repay his obligations to a ruthless mobster. Cosmo Vittelli, the protagonist, owns a struggling cabaret and has developed a significant gambling problem, which ultimately entangles him with the local criminal underworld.
