"Klimt" weaves together the captivating life story of Austrian artist Gustav Klimt and his revolutionary impact on art nouveau during Vienna's fin de siècle opulence. Dying in a hospital bed, Klimt's mind drifts through memories: Paris' World Exposition where he encounters Georges Méliès and possibly Lea de Castro; his vibrant studio filled with canvases that echo his scandalous liaisons; and his complex relationships with his mentally ill mother and sister. Interspersed are imagined scenes of Klimt's interactions with ministers, waiters, and lovers, raising questions about art's genesis amidst indulgence and syphilis. Is Klimt's provocative genius fueled by these experiences? As the artist's life ebbs away, we're left to ponder if his art truly reflects life's richness and decadence.
