Synopsis
In Provence, Southern France in 1832, during an outbreak of cholera, Angelo, a young Italian officer, is pursued by Austrian secret police. After several encounters gone awry, he meets Pauline de Theus, a young lady who is searching for her husband, Jean-Marie. They cross paths again at a masquerade ball where they dance together without realizing each other's identity. Angelo, smitten, starts to search for Pauline despite the danger he's in.

Résumé
Le hussard sur le toit (1995) is an adventure romance film directed by Jean-Paul Rappeneau. It's based on Joseph Kessel's novel of the same name and is set against the backdrop of the cholera epidemic sweeping through Provence in 1832. The movie follows Angelo, a young Italian officer hunted by Austrian secret police, as he becomes entangled in a romantic quest with Pauline de Theus while trying to evade his pursuers.
