Synopsis

During the Spanish Civil War in 1936, a young nun named Maria is forced to flee her convent due to the outbreak of war. She takes refuge in a brothel until it is liberated by an anarchist women's group led by Soledad. Maria joins this group and eventually goes to the front lines with them. The women face challenges not only from the nationalists but also from other left-wing factions who wish to impose more traditional military structures.

Résumé

Libertarias, released in 1996, is a Spanish historical drama directed by Vicente Aranda. Set against the backdrop of the Spanish Civil War, the film explores themes of female empowerment and the struggle for liberation within a male-dominated society.
