Histoire
Laura, a privileged woman, retreats to her beach house while her husband is away. She seduces Weisman, the lead contractor building a barbecue shed in her backyard. After their encounter, Weisman disappears, leaving Laura to manage the other two workers herself. However, she struggles with authority as they continually invade her home, making her feel encroached upon and causing tension between them. Laura ignores calls from her husband while waiting for Weisman's return, retreating behind her glass windows and observing the workers as they become increasingly unruly. The situation escalates with each passing day until it reaches a breaking point.
Résumé
In 'Marea alta' (2020), director Verónica Chen explores themes of power dynamics, class differences, and the consequences of infidelity. Laura, portrayed by Gloria Carrá, is a woman on the edge, struggling to maintain control as her environment becomes increasingly chaotic. The film uses stark contrasts between light and shadow, expansive overhead shots, and tight close-ups to create an unsettling atmosphere that reflects Laura's internal turmoil. Chen pushes both the story and Laura to their limits, resulting in a tense and compelling drama.
