Mo' Better Blues follows Bleek Gilliam (Denzel Washington), a talented but self-centered jazz trumpeter who struggles with professional and romantic decisions. He is torn between his two girlfriends, Indigo (Spike Lee's real-life wife Tonya Lewis Lee) and Clarke (Cynda Williams). Meanwhile, he faces challenges in his career as his manager and childhood friend, Giant (Giancarlo Esposito), lands himself in trouble with loan sharks due to gambling debts. When Bleek steps in to help Giant, he finds that his world is more fragile than he imagined.
