Synopsis
In 17th century Ukraine, a Cossack rebellion threatens the sovereignty of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. Colonel Michal Wolodyjowski leads a squadron of Polish cavalry against the rebels and their Crimean Tatar allies. Amidst this conflict, a Polish knight, Skrzetuski, and a Cossack leader, Bohun, both fall in love with Helena, a young beautiful woman. Their rivalry over her becomes symbolic of the Polish-Ukrainian struggle.

Résumé
Ogniem i mieczem (1999) is a historical drama film directed by Jerzy Hoffman, based on Henryk Sienkiewicz's novel of the same name. Set during the Khmelnytsky Uprising in the mid-17th century, it explores the complex political and cultural landscape of Eastern Europe through the lens of a love triangle between Skrzetuski, Bohun, and Helena.
