Synopsis
Fourteen-year-old Marika is sent to an Institute for Mentally Disabled Girls at Sance due to an administrative error, despite her efforts to be placed in a children's home in Hradci after being raped by her father and losing her mother at the age of four. Upon arrival, she struggles against the harsh treatment meted out to mentally handicapped girls, while trying to convince the staff that she doesn't belong there. The headmaster is oblivious to the mistreatment happening within his institution.

Directed by Filip Renč in 1992, 'Requiem pro panenku' (translated as 'Requiem for a Virgin') is a Czech drama-thriller that explores the harsh realities of institutional care through the eyes of its young protagonist, Marika. The film deals with themes of abuse, neglect, and the struggle against bureaucracy and indifference.
