Synopsis

Nick Leeson, an ambitious young bank clerk at Barings Bank, sees an opportunity for career advancement when he's offered a position in Jakarta, Indonesia to sort out an unpopular problem. He excels in his new role and marries Lisa during his time there. When the bank offers him the chance to set up their options trading operation in Singapore, Nick embraces the challenge despite being given limited resources. His first year is successful, with significant profits for the bank, but his illegal practices start taking a toll as he secretly covers up losses. After the tragic loss of his unborn child, Nick spirals out of control, gambling recklessly with other people's money, ultimately leading to a massive financial meltdown and the bankruptcy of Barings Bank.
