On the last day of school before summer vacation, Michael Ryan finds an anonymous love letter in his locker. His friend Roger Despard convinces him that Deborah Anne Fimple, the most beautiful girl in high school, has written it. Michael asks Toni Williams, who actually wrote the letter for him, to deliver a new one he's written to Deborah. Toni reads Michael's letter and rewrites it before giving it to Deborah, who falls in love with the unknown author. Meanwhile, Michael's mother Connie finds his original letter and believes it was meant for her husband George, while Deborah's father Lou discovers Deborah's rewritten letter and thinks it's intended for Elizabeth, his wife.
