Synopsis
In Salty Creek, South Carolina during autumn of 1941, Sophie leads a lonely life until a mysterious Asian man, Mr. Ohta, arrives in town amidst World War II. They form a friendship based on their shared love for art, which blossoms into a secret interracial romance. As their relationship deepens, the war escalates, and after Pearl Harbor is bombed, anti-Japanese sentiment sweeps through the town. Sophie, along with the town matriarch and her housekeeper, risk their lives to protect Mr. Ohta from the growing bigotry and violence.
