Synopsis
The movie 'Surviving Picasso' (1996) recounts the relationship between Pablo Picasso and his lover/muse Francoise Gilot over a decade from 1943. The film opens with the meeting of these two artists in Paris during World War II, where Gilot is captivated by Picasso's genius despite knowing about his reputation as a womanizer. They become lovers, and Gilot bears him two children while also maintaining her independence as an artist. 'Surviving Picasso' is a Merchant-Ivory drama based on the true story of Francoise Gilot, the only lover of Pablo Picasso who was able to endure his abusive behavior and walk away. The film, directed by James Ivory in 1996, stars Anthony Hopkins as Picasso, Natascha McElhone as Gilot, Julianne Moore as Dora Maar, Susannah Harker as Marie-Thérèse Walter, and Jane Lapotaire as Olga Koklowa.
