Synopsis
Cathy Jamison, a suburban Minneapolis high school teacher and mother of one, learns she has advanced stage IV melanoma and faces her impending mortality while trying to maintain a sense of humor and normalcy. Struggling with how to reveal her diagnosis to her family and friends, Cathy navigates through various emotions as she comes to terms with her prognosis. Her husband Paul, a seemingly irresponsible college sweetheart turned husband, and their teenage son Adam each grapple with the news in their own ways. Cathy's radical environmentalist brother Sean, who chooses to live off the grid, adds another layer of complexity to the family dynamic. Throughout the series, Cathy interacts with her students like Andrea Jackson, dealing with her own issues of weight and racial identity, and her elderly neighbor whom she has never made an effort to know despite their close proximity.
