Synopsis
Maurice Russell, an aging veteran actor in London, finds himself drawn to Jessie, his close friend Ian's grandniece who has come to live with him. Maurice nicknames her 'Venus' after a painting he admires. Despite their age difference and contrasting personalities, Maurice tries to expose Jessie to the benefits of his wisdom and cultural knowledge, while she challenges him to rediscover his youthful vigor. Their unlikely friendship evolves as they spend time together, with Maurice helping Jessie understand the realities of life and love, and Jessie inspiring Maurice to confront his own mortality. As Maurice's health declines, their relationship deepens, ultimately leading both to discover unexpected truths about themselves.

Résumé
Venus (2006) is a British comedy-drama directed by Roger Michell that explores themes of aging, friendship, and self-discovery through the unlikely bond between an elderly actor and his friend's young grandniece. Once a renowned actor, Maurice Russell now finds himself in the twilight of his life, spending time with his friends Ian and Donald, and visiting his wife Valerie whom he still cares for deeply but no longer lives with. When Jessie arrives from the provinces to stay with Ian, Maurice sees an opportunity to reignite some of his lost youth and vigor through their shared companionship. Although Jessie initially seems more interested in pursuing her own unrealistic dreams than caring for Ian, she eventually forms a genuine connection with Maurice, leading both characters to reevaluate their priorities and confront their fears.
