Allison Brooks Janney, born November 19, 1959 in Boston but raised in Dayton, Ohio, is an American actress known for her extensive work across film, television, and stage over three decades. After studying at Kenyon College and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, Janney's breakthrough role was C.J. Cregg on 'The West Wing' (1999–2006), earning four Emmy Awards. She has since won Emmys for 'Masters of Sex' (2014) and 'Mom' (2013–2021), and received Tony nominations for Broadway productions like 'A View from the Bridge' (1997) and '9 to 5' (2009). Notable film roles include 'American Beauty' (1999), 'The Help' (2011), and 'I, Tonya' (2017), for which she won an Academy Award.
