Histoire
In Havana, 1957, young cop Ruben Velez witnesses his partner murder a student activist. Instead of reporting it, he's warned to play along with corruption or face consequences. He meets Juliana, a Tropicana dancer who knows the murdered girl and has ties to the mob. As they grow closer, Juliana feeds him inside information about the mob while Ruben tries to maintain his principles in a city fueled by sin.
Résumé
Havana 57 (2012) is set amidst the decadence of Havana during Batista's dictatorship. The film follows young cop Ruben Velez as he navigates corruption within the police force and the mafia-run nightclubs, where sex, drugs, and gambling thrive. As a witness to his partner's murder of a student activist, Ruben must choose between upholding justice or playing along with corruption. His relationship with Juliana, a Tropicana dancer involved with the mob, adds complexity to his situation.
