Histoire

Maddy Etcheban, a dedicated police officer in Bayonne, faces an unprecedented challenge when her teenage son Clément goes missing from their home one morning. Clément's autism makes him particularly vulnerable, and Maddy fears the worst as she remembers his fascination with a nearby construction site where several teenagers have already drowned tragically. As time ticks away and hope fades, Maddy begins to question whether Clément's disappearance is linked to her own past mistakes as a mother. The search for her son forces Maddy to confront not only her guilt but also the dark truths hidden beneath the surface of their seemingly peaceful town.

Résumé

Maddy Etcheban (2020), directed by René Manzor, is a gripping French thriller that seamlessly weaves together themes of motherhood, autism awareness, and the unraveling of small-town secrets. Centered around the titular character, Maddy Etcheban, played by Anne Azoulay, the film explores the depths of maternal love and desperation through her relentless search for her missing autistic son Clément (Niels Schneider). Set against the backdrop of Bayonne, France, this police procedural cum family drama blurs the lines between professional duty and personal agony as Maddy navigates both the treacherous waters of the investigation and her own troubled past. With its nuanced portrayal of autism and a riveting narrative that keeps viewers on the edge of their seats until the very end, Maddy Etcheban stands out as a powerful cinematic exploration of resilience in the face of adversity.
