T.J. Hart, born Amy L. Damkroger on February 25, 1967 in DeKalb, Illinois, grew up in a Christian Methodist household with an older brother and younger sister, eventually settling in Colorado. After graduating from the University of Colorado with triple majors in art, psychology, and sociology, along with a minor in early childhood education, Hart worked as a bartender and Sunday school teacher before embarking on her adult entertainment career at age 30 in 1997. She began with bisexual porn before shifting to straight explicit hardcore films, retiring in 2007. Now married, she holds a degree in finance.
