Laura Elena Harring (née Herring Martínez, formerly Gräfin von Bismarck-Schönhausen; born March 3, 1964) is an American actress and beauty pageant titleholder who won Miss USA 1985 and later began acting in television and film. She is best known for her lead role as Rita in the 2001 movie Mulholland Drive. Her other films include The Forbidden Dance (1990), John Q (2002), Willard (2003), The Punisher (2004), The King (2005), Love in the Time of Cholera (2007), Ghost Son (2007), The Caller (2008), Drool (2009), Sex Ed (2014), and Inside (2016). She also played Carla Greco in General Hospital (1990–1991), Paula Stevens on Sunset Beach (1997), and Rebecca "Becca" Doyle in The Shield (2006).

Histoire
The film begins with an unidentified woman in a car crash on Mulholland Drive. She survives but suffers from amnesia and assumes the identity of 'Rita', taking refuge in an apartment owned by 'Adam Kesher'. Meanwhile, Betty Elms, a naive aspiring actress from Canada, arrives in Hollywood to pursue her dreams. She moves into Aunt Ruth's apartment where she discovers Rita, who looks remarkably like Betty's cousin Diane, who went missing years ago. Betty decides to help Rita recover her memory and also aids Adam with his film audition process, during which Rita auditions and impresses everyone despite her amnesia. As Betty becomes more involved in their lives, strange events begin to occur, including encounters with mysterious figures like 'The Cowboy' and 'The Man Behind the Diner'. As Rita's memory starts to return, she reveals that she had been having an affair with another woman named 'Camilla', who may have been involved in a plot against Adam. The film culminates in a shocking revelation about Betty's past and the true identity of Rita.

Initially conceived as a television pilot for ABC, 'Mulholland Dr.' was eventually adapted into a feature film by French company Studio Canal Plus after ABC decided not to air it despite David Lynch's efforts to cut it down to their liking.
