Biographie complète
Lisa Bowman (also known as Lisa Donaldson) is a New York-based visual artist and actress who gained cinematic prominence for her starring role in Kelly Reichardt’s acclaimed 1994 directorial debut, River of Grass. In this minimalist "anti-road movie," Bowman delivered a compelling performance as Cozy, a disaffected Florida housewife seeking an escape from her mundane existence. Her portrayal, characterized by a blunt, deadpan delivery and a distinctive folksy narration, earned her significant critical praise and remains a cult favorite in American independent cinema.
Beyond her work on screen, Bowman is primarily an accomplished artist specializing in photomontage. Having studied in San Francisco, she has established a successful career in the fine arts, with her work being exhibited in major cultural hubs including New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Paris. In addition to her visual art, she is a published author under the pen name Lisa Di Vita, known for the book Shattered Peacock.
Throughout her life, Bowman has maintained a close connection to the film industry through her family. She has been married to director and producer Chuck Bowman since 1979 and is the mother of post-production coordinator Stephen Bowman. While she appeared in a few subsequent projects such as Dead Dog (2001) and Dead Above Ground (2002), she has largely focused her creative energy on her evolving career as a multi-disciplinary artist in New York City.
