Born as Marie-Sophie Nélisse on March 27, 2000, in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, the actress moved to Montreal with her family at the age of four. Initially an aspiring Olympic gymnast, she turned to acting at age seven—starting with commercials—to help fund her rigorous training and travel expenses.
Nélisse rose to prominence with her breakout role in the 2011 film Monsieur Lazhar, for which she won both a Genie and a Jutra Award.
