Biographie complète

Valérie Donzelli is a distinguished French actress, filmmaker, and screenwriter whose multifaceted career has made her a central figure in contemporary European cinema. Born on March 2, 1973, in Épinal, she initially gained public recognition for her versatile acting roles in both television and film. One of her standout early performances was in the 2009 TV movie "La belle vie", where she portrayed Béa, a bank employee who leads a double life of luxury through embezzlement. This role showcased her ability to balance vulnerability with complex moral ambiguity, a theme that often resurfaces in her later work.

While her acting career flourished with projects like the popular series Clara Sheller, Donzelli achieved international acclaim by transitioning behind the camera. Her breakthrough as a director came with the 2011 masterpiece "Declaration of War" (La Guerre est déclarée), a deeply personal film inspired by her own experiences, which was selected as the French entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the Oscars. Her directorial style is noted for its emotional intensity and stylistic boldness, often blending tragedy with a unique, whimsical energy.

As of 2026, Donzelli continues to be a powerhouse in the industry. Her recent accolades include winning the César Award in 2024 for Best Adaptation for her film L'Amour et les forêts. Most recently, she has remained at the forefront of the festival circuit with her 2025 project "At Work" (À pied d'œuvre), which premiered at the Venice Film Festival, and her 2026 release "Jours d'après". Whether in front of or behind the lens, Valérie Donzelli remains a vital voice in French storytelling, known for her profound empathy and creative courage.
