Biographie complète
Born as Kim Min-hee on March 1, 1982, in Seoul, South Korea, she is a globally recognized actress and model. She began her career as a fashion model in middle school, quickly becoming a fixture in teen magazines before making her acting debut in the 1999 campus drama School 2. Although she initially faced criticism for her acting skills and was often labeled a "blank" fashion icon, she underwent rigorous training and successfully rebranded herself as a serious performer with the 2006 television series Goodbye Solo.
Kim rose to massive international fame for her portrayal of the mysterious Lady Hideko in Park Chan-wook’s 2016 erotic psychological thriller The Handmaiden (Ah-ga-ssi). Her performance was lauded for its complexity and emotional depth, earning her a spot on the The New York Times list of the 25 Greatest Actors of the 21st Century.
In 2017, she made history as the first South Korean to win the Silver Bear for Best Actress at the Berlin International Film Festival for her role in On the Beach at Night Alone. Since 2015, she has primarily collaborated with director Hong Sang-soo, starring in numerous critically acclaimed indie films such as The Day After and By the Stream, for which she won the Pardo for Best Performance at the 2024 Locarno Film Festival.
