Maren Seidler played Chris Cahill, a track and field athlete with natural ability but lacking confidence, in 'Personal Best' (1982). In the film, she joins Torry Skinner's (played by Martina Norris) team at Cal Poly under coach Terry Tingloff (played by Austin Norris), after being initially denied coaching due to her subpar performance at the trials. Despite no scholarship money involved and initial reluctance from Chris's father, she accepts the offer against his wishes. During their time together, Chris and Torry embark on a relationship, each seeing qualities in the other they lack themselves. Eventually, coach Tingloff recognizes Chris's potential and convinces her to compete in the pentathlon. The film explores the complexities of their friendship and sexual relationship amidst competition and the pressure to succeed.
